SILK SHROUDED IN LEGENDS EXHIBITION MEETS ART LOVERS
The "Silk Shrouded in Legends" exhibition, prepared by Midas Silk House and brought to life by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, opened to art lovers with an official ceremony at the Temporary Exhibition Hall of the City Museums Complex. The exhibition presents 12 ancient silk legends from different regions of the world, alongside a 13th story originating from Eskişehir, offered for visitors' appreciation.
Focusing on the historical journey of silk through legends, the exhibition features artworks created using silks produced at Midas Silk House. By bringing together the patience, elegance, and production process of silk with artistic expression, the exhibition highlights Eskişehir's deep-rooted silk-weaving heritage.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Ayşe Ünlüce, CHP Eskişehir Member of Parliament Jale Nur Süllü, Midas Silk House Coordinator Meltem Tuncer Şahin, municipal officials, and numerous art enthusiasts.
Speaking at the opening, Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce recalled that Eskişehir's silk journey began in 2017 with the planting of mulberry saplings, noting that this initiative evolved into a comprehensive project extending from production to art under the municipality's sustainable governance approach. "We did not limit ourselves to distributing mulberry saplings; we aimed to produce silk, process it, and transform it into value-added products. With Midas Silk House, a very precious journey began. This exhibition represents a significant milestone of that journey," she stated.
Emphasizing that although Eskişehir has historically been located on the Silk Road, this identity had long remained in the background, Ünlüce underlined that the exhibition restores Eskişehir to its rightful place within silk narratives. She thanked all contributors and stressed that such cultural initiatives add lasting value to the city.
CHP Eskişehir MP Jale Nur Süllü, in her remarks, thanked Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality for its continuous support for art and artists and wished the exhibition success.
Midas Silk House Coordinator Meltem Tuncer Şahin stated that the exhibition reinterprets 12 ancient silk legends from around the world through a shared narrative, aiming to offer a new perspective on silk's cultural journey through the 13th story that has taken root in Eskişehir, at the heart of Anatolia.
The "Silk Shrouded in Legends" exhibition will be open to visitors at the Temporary Exhibition Hall of the City Museums Complex until 28 December.
