As part of the Republic Day celebrations on October 29, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce came together with nearly one thousand women who have received training from the Art and Vocational Training Courses (ESMEK) during the event titled "From Past to Future: Eskişehir Women in the Footsteps of the Republic." Speaking at the gathering, Mayor Ünlüce said, "Women's labor, solidarity, and intelligence are what make this city beautiful."
The program was attended by Jale Nur Süllü, Eskişehir Member of Parliament from the Republican People's Party (CHP), CHP Eskişehir Provincial Chair Talat Yalaz, Tepebaşı Mayor Ahmet Ataç, female municipal council members, women neighborhood heads (muhtars), female representatives of political parties, and ESMEK trainees. At the gathering, which centered around unity, solidarity, and the core values of the Republic, the participants emphasized the importance of preserving the spirit of the Republic and passing it on to future generations.
Speaking at the event, Tepebaşı Mayor Dr. Ahmet Ataç said: "I greet all of you -- the Republican women of the Republic city-- with love and respect. The Republic is the name of the newborn child. The Republic is the future of the youth. The Republic is the sweat of the workers. The Republic means women's rights; it means Atatürk. It was extraordinary that in 1934, with a great vision, Atatürk granted women the right to vote and to be elected. Even one of the world's most developed countries, Switzerland, gave these rights to women only in 1971. Just look at the depth of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's vision. We can never be grateful enough to him and his heroic comrades-in-arms. Therefore, long live the Republic, long live women, and long live Mustafa Kemal Atatürk!"
CHP Eskişehir Provincial Chairman Talat Yalaz also emphasized the importance of the rights granted to women by the Republic, stating: "The Republic is a women's revolution. It is the greatest value that made possible the ideal of a modern and equal society, making women the main actors of life. Since a woman touched Eskişehir, many great things continue to be accomplished. Today, the fact that we are holding this gathering with Eskişehir's first female Metropolitan Mayor is a powerful reflection of the achievements the Republic has provided to women. According to the latest public opinion polls shared by our party headquarters, our Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce's approval rating has increased by 15 points. This result shows that Eskişehir grows even stronger under the leadership of women who uphold the values of the Republic. Together, we will continue to protect the values of our Republic and move Eskişehir forward."
CHP Eskişehir Member of Parliament Jale Nur Süllü stated, "It is truly meaningful that Eskişehir is represented by its first female mayor in the 102nd year of our Republic. Together, we will walk toward a stronger, more equal, and more hopeful future."
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce, in her speech, expressed the following: "The Republic is a women's revolution -- and it suits women best. If I stand before you today as Eskişehir's first female Metropolitan Mayor, it is because of the courage I have drawn from the path paved by Atatürk. Women's labor, solidarity, and intelligence are what make this city beautiful. We will continue to open new paths for women in every field and make their strength visible. Long live the Republic, long live the women of the Republic, and long live Eskişehir!"*
The women attending the gathering expressed their happiness at being part of such a meaningful event in the 102nd year of the Republic. The event concluded with strong messages emphasizing the women's determination to carry forward the values of the Republic into the future.
