SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHED: WE ARE ENCOURAGING BICYCLE USE FOR A GREENER ESKİŞEHİR
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce chaired the first meeting of the Sustainable Mobility Commission established within the municipality and which will work to popularize bicycle use. The commission will meet at regular intervals and work to increase the importance of using bicycles in urban transportation.
Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, which has taken action to ensure that bicycles, which have an important place in the citys memory, are used in urban transportation, continues to rapidly build bicycle paths on the one hand, and on the other hand, it has established a commission for education and awareness studies. Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce also attended the first meeting of the commission, which brought together various units of the municipality, civil society organizations working in this field, and Eskişehir City Council.
In her speech at the meeting, Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce said, We can address the spread of bicycle paths and the use of bicycles in transportation in many different ways. While our work on the roads under construction continues rapidly, we will also accelerate our education and awareness studies, which are the backbone of this work. Starting from children, we will provide both bicycle riding training and awareness training on bicycle transportation. We wanted to establish a commission that brings together the relevant departments within our municipality before the World Bicycle Day on June 3. We want to include civil society in this commission and act together.
The commission will bring together the Press, Department of Press and Public Relations Department, Social Services Department, Youth and Sports Services Department, Police Department, Public Transportation Department and civil society organizations every month under the coordination of the Transportation Department. The commission, where the needs and suggestions regarding bicycle paths will be evaluated, will also make plans for education and awareness studies. In addition, representatives from other actors of urban transportation, tradesmen and bicycle users will be invited to the commission twice a year.
