Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, in order to strengthen the role of bicycles in urban transportation, continues to build bicycle paths rapidly, while also starting education and awareness activities.
Continuing its work on bicycles, which have an important place in the city's memory and are one of the main actors of urban transportation in civilized societies, the Metropolitan Municipality has started its education activities on this subject with children. Within this scope, the "I am Getting to Know Bicycle Transportation" education program coordinated by many units has started on the Islands. In the event, children had fun with the help of expert trainers and received training on correct bicycle use and bicycle paths.
The puppet show staged by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters added color to the education. With the puppet show, children were made aware of issues such as environmentally friendly transportation, compliance with traffic rules and adopting bicycles as a lifestyle. Later, the children who participated in the training were given a "Bicycle Transportation Volunteer" badge.
Providing information about the studies, Head of Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department Fırat Bilgili said, As the Metropolitan Municipality, our goal is to popularize bicycle use, which is one of the most sustainable transportation solutions for short and medium-distance journeys, in every part of our city. In order to ensure that citizens of all ages prefer bicycle use more, we will not only build our bicycle paths. Supporting this issue with awareness and teaching activities will be one of our important duties. We are also starting these trainings with children's age groups on June 3, which is World Bicycle Day.
Metropolitan Municipality Bicycle Trainer Can Kandiyoti also touched on the importance of bicycle use and said, Bicycles are one of our simplest, most fun and healthy means of transportation. We can prevent many health problems caused by sedentary life by using bicycles for our daily needs. Let's ride our bicycles on newly built safe bicycle paths for our physical and mental health.
Reminding that bike paths are only for bicycle use and warning citizens, Police Commissioner Uğur Sarıkaya said, As the Police Department, we would like to remind you once again that bike paths are for bicycles. Our request for accidents to be avoided and for cyclists and pedestrians to be safe is that motorcycles and pedestrians do not use bike paths and vehicles do not park incorrectly on these paths.
The project, which was implemented with the slogan I love my bike, I am getting to know bicycle transportation, is of great importance, especially in terms of gaining environmentally friendly transportation habits in children at an early age.
